Shallow Well Drilling Made Easy
In the summer you may face a strange situation with the water authority giving emphasis on water conservation. You may even stand a chance of facing a penalty for excessive use of water. With the existing limitation in supply of water and the additional restriction in using it, it would be more helpful if you think of finding a better alternative. In case you live in an area which sits on top of a shallow water table, then with some simple shallow well drilling methods you can access as much water as you want.
In order to initiate this expedition the first step is to visit the public agency office and apply for permit which will attract some minimal charges. The next step is to select the site for the shallow well drilling. The most commonly used drilling equipment for this type of drilling is the post hole digger, which can be bought from the nearest shallow well drilling equipment supplier. This shallow well drilling digger can be turned to reach depths of 20 feet or more. The auger should be such that you could easily keep on adding extensions to it in order to increase the depth. Set the auger width to 2 inches more than the casing diameter that you intend to use. The auger is then drawn into the earth until it is full of dirt, whence it is pulled out and the debris is removed 5 to 6 feet away from the site of hole.
As the depth of the hole increases, keep adding an extension in order to move the auger bucket further deep down. Buying a number of extensions with different lengths could help you reach a respectable depth with your auger. When the auger bucket reaches the water table, the extensions will start getting wetter and harder to hold on to. At this point you should make use of pipe wrenches in order to hold the extensions. Once the auger enters the water table, you should consider further digging only on the basis of the drawing capacity of the pump. The optimal depth of shallow well drilling is to go one foot deeper than the pump’s drawing capacity.
While making the casing for the shallow well drilling hole, use plastic casings with grooves. If it is possible, you should buy enough casings to line the entire hole up to the water table. The top end of the casing is then covered with an end cap, which is almost of the same size as the casing. The next step in the shallow well drilling project is to attach a foot valve to the pipe. The next step is to fit the PVC casing with a coupler in order to prevent entry of dirt into the casing. In order to determine the coupler position in the PVC pipe, you need to measure the distance between the end cap and the top of the casing. The couplers are glued together and then the interior plastic pipe is moved onto one side of the coupling and it is also glued together. Then you should drop pea gravel in the well hole in order to avoid any dirt from entering into the casing and the well. The casing along with the pipe is then dropped into the well. While carrying out this process, you should ensure that the gravel should only sit around the casing and not fall into the well. The pump is then plumbed to the top of the PVC pipe and the shallow well drilling process is completed.
